York Street Cafe

York Street Cafe Bailey Kemme Upon visiting York Street Cafe, I had heard little to no opinions about it, but did look at the yelp review, which held it to a high standard of four and half stars. I was very intrigued by this and selected at as my next destination in Newport. Giving off a classy, yet casual vibe, I found the restaurant very intimate and a good place to relax. It's a different kind of setting, and the food was well prepared and the atmosphere was very nice. It almost has a nostalgic feeling for a decade I was not alive, but yet creates the idea of it with the novelties and antiques around. It was unique how the entrance was on the side of the building, surcease the front is so open and inviting to customers. I got the dirty hummus, and it was very flavorful and warm, mainly tastes of peppers, onion and cheese that gave me a good twist on the normal hummus i would buy from the store. The service was pretty great as well. It isn't just a restaurant, it's an e

Discovering York Street Cafe.

By: Ahmad If you are looking for a fun place that offers delicious food with an outstanding service, as well as different and funky decor, then York Street Cafe is your destination. It is located in Newport and on the street that it gets its name from, York street.  As soon as you walk through the doors, you will be greeted by hosts that are dressed up in formal attire and will notice how different this place is. The friendly staff will guide you to your table and answer all your questions about the cafe, from the decor to the menu. When I explained my intentions of writing a blog about this place, our server, Ethan, was kind enough to introduce us to Terry, one of the owners of the cafe. Terry provided us with the history of this cafe. Apparently, the building used to be called the “Feth Building,” and the front part of it on the first floor was a pharmacy. In the mid 60’s, the building was purchased and developed into the family business of Seibert Office E

Discovering Buckhead Mountain Grill Restaurant

Image
Discovering Buckhead Mountain Grill Research: Lily Gamel         There are many restaurants and shops that overlook these beautiful views of the Ohio River, the Purple People bridge, The Roebling Bridge, the skyline of Cincinnati, the BB riverboat, and more. Among these local places is Buckhead Mountain Grill. This is a restaurant that gives you a feeling of being in a cabin in the woods. There are deer and moose heads on the wall, and wooden beams, floors, walls, and ceiling that give a rustic vibe.          With only three locations, Buckhead's loves to give out a helping hand to the community surrounding it. On their website, you can find ways to donate to local charities for their Charity Days. They have been able to give back to schools, non-profits, and surrounding sports groups. Throughout the days of being in business, Buckhead Mountain Grill has been able to donate over $40,000 dollars to the locals.          The restaurant also supports the local music life. They

Discovering Hofbräuhaus restaurant

Image
Observational: By Ahmad Hofbräuhaus is a brewery and restaurant located in Newport on the Levee area and is a great place for people to experience German culture, as well as German beer and food. Me and my other two classmates visited the restaurant about a week ago and were amused by the fact that waitresses are dressed in German uniforms to assure the best experience for the guests. The decoration of this restaurant is another way to ensure that their guests will never forget this experience. The restaurant has traditionally decorated rooms with lots of pictures that present the history of Germany and the history of the restaurant. in fact, The Hofbräuhaus Newport is modeled after the original 400+-year-old Hofbräuhaus in Munich, Germany.    Hofbräuhaus Germany Hofbräuhaus Newport

Discovering The Hofbrauhaus

Discovering The Hofbrauhaus  Interview: Lily Gamel          Surrounded by new apartments and historic, old houses there is beautiful city that celebrates diversity and unity simultaneously. Newport is a city filled with culture, creativity, and history. There is a lot to explore when coming into this city. There are shops, entertainment, wonderful sights, and delicious restaurants that offer diverse, quality food. The Hofbrauhaus is just one restaurant out of many that offers all these qualities and beyond. It is a restaurant that promotes German culture all around. Newport does a great job bringing in diversity and culture into the city especially with the Hofbrauhaus. In the picture to the left, we can see that there are rows of wooden tables that align the floor, similar to how other Hofbrauhauses in Germany are. In the back, we can see the bar and the giant gold tanks made for the traditional German beers to give it a more authentic look.            When my fellow blo

History Of Hofbräuhaus

History Of  Hofbräuhaus     Bailey Kemme                              Visiting the  Hofbräuhaus Newport was an experience I will not soon forget. If you are looking for a truly unique meal that has an experience with it, this is your place. Not only will the servers take their time to sing and dance on tables for you, but do it in colorful German uniforms. The history of this place is also quite exciting (if you're into that kind of thing). If you didn't know, they often call breweries in Germany  Hofbräuhaus'.  The  Hofbräuhaus name came from Wihelm V, the duke of Bavaria (1579-1597). He and his mates were not satisfied with the beer brewed in Munich, and would often order beer from other cities. Trying to  cut costs, they decided to build a brewery with brew-master Heimeran Pongraz, and the word  Hofbräuhaus, meaning the "ducal brewery". (This information is all found on the  Hofbräuhaus Newport website,  https://www.hofbrauhausnewport.com/history/ ).

The History of Newport

Image
As me and my classmates started our journey of discovering Newport we came across a Mexican restaurant, La mexicana, located on Monmouth Street about half a mile away from Newport on the Levee. On the same stretch of the road, you can find an antique gallery, costume gallery, and many other local and nationwide businesses. These businesses are what have “set the tone for the rest of the city,” said Newport Mayor Jerry Peluso. The History of Newport- The previous sin city   The city of Newport is located at the confluence of Ohio and Licking rivers and was established in 1795. Many years later, and especially during the prohibition period (1920-1933), Newport was becoming the “Las Vegas” of that time, known for gambling, crime, and corruption. Newport was commonly known for the illegal businesses of making and transporting alcoholic beverages (bootlegging), which was done by the mobs. After the Prohibition Period, the mobs were not interested in bootlegging anymo

Discovering La Mexicana Restaurant

Image
Discovering La Mexicana Restaurant Observation: Lily Gamel      O n the lively Monmouth Street located in Newport Kentucky, there are people eating at tables outside restaurants and cars lined up on each side of the street. There is a sense of belonging as people sit outside people-watching and discussing their days in front of shops, businesses, and restaurants that line the streets one next to the other.  Among these welcoming buildings is La Mexicana which, you  guessed it, is a Mexican restaurant that provides delicious, authentic Mexican food.            La Mexicana stood out with a bright yellow sign hanging out into the sidewalk with the words "La Mexicana" written in red letters and a picture of Mexico. This picture of Mexico was made up different Mexican things such as a guitar, sombreros, cacti, avocados, etc. This draws in customers because it shows diversity in this city. Newport tends to celebrate culture in all ways including having delicious resta

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Discovering La Mexicana Restaurante Cantina & Tienda -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interview: Bailey Kemme ------------------------------------ It’s not often you can go to a restaurant with “foreign” food and find it not “Americanized”. Luckily, in Newport, Kentucky, some locally owned and original businesses in the heart of the city still have the passion for authenticity that some strive for when looking for a good restaurant. My classmates and I found a Mexican restaurant in Newport that is more of a “hole in the wall” kind of restaurant you only find occasionally, La Mexicana. While being a small Mexican diner, you can also find a small store in the back filled with authentic Mexican ingredients for making your own at home. We were only able to talk to the owner for a moment, and unfortunately, they had been going through Gener
