History Of Hofbräuhaus

Bailey Kemme                             Visiting the Hofbräuhaus Newport was an experience I will not soon forget. If you are looking for a truly unique meal that has an experience with it, this is your place. Not only will the servers take their time to sing and dance on tables for you, but do it in colorful German uniforms. The history of this place is also quite exciting (if you're into that kind of thing). If you didn't know, they often call breweries in Germany Hofbräuhaus'.
The Hofbräuhaus name came from Wihelm V, the duke of Bavaria (1579-1597). He and his mates were not satisfied with the beer brewed in Munich, and would often order beer from other cities. Trying to cut costs, they decided to build a brewery with brew-master Heimeran Pongraz, and the word Hofbräuhaus, meaning the "ducal brewery". (This information is all found on the Hofbräuhaus Newport website, https://www.hofbrauhausnewport.com/history/).
In April of 2003, the first Hofbräuhaus Franchise was opened in Newport, Kentucky (pictured left). The beer had been introduced tot he US 6 years prior, but they needed a real Hofbräuhaus to a get the fresh stuff. They designed it as a "Munich Original". They had many documents and old black and white pictures hanging on the walls. The building has a brewery attached to it and is very unique compared to tits surroundings. We liked how this helped bring a different culture into Newport, German, instead of making a new Italian or Mexican restaurant.Image preview
