Discovering The Hofbrauhaus

Discovering The Hofbrauhaus

Interview: Lily Gamel

Surrounded by new apartments and historic, old houses there is beautiful city that celebrates diversity and unity simultaneously. Newport is a city filled with culture, creativity, and history. There is a lot to explore when coming into this city. There are shops, entertainment, wonderful sights, and delicious restaurants that offer diverse, quality food. The Hofbrauhaus is just one restaurant out of many that offers all these qualities and beyond. It is a restaurant that promotes German culture all around. Newport does a great job bringing in diversity and culture into the city especially with the Hofbrauhaus. In the picture to the left, we can see that there are rows of wooden tables that align the floor, similar to how other Hofbrauhauses in Germany are. In the back, we can see the bar and the giant gold tanks made for the traditional German beers to give it a more authentic look.
When my fellow blogging writers and I came to The Hofbrauhaus, our expectations were met. The menu was filled with authentic German dishes such as schnitzel, bratwurst, metwurst, bierwurst, and others that emphasize the German culture in the form of food. The servers were dressed in traditional German festival wear that includes fancy dresses with designs on the front apron and fluffy white tops. Our server, Angela, was prompt in our food service and kind enough to allow me to ask a few questions about the Hofbrauhaus. She explained that she had been working there for about two years, and they love to celebrate the German holidays. For example, the annual Oktoberfest was celebrated in Germany as well as Cincinnati, Covington, and Newport. Of course, it was celebrated at the Hofbrauhaus as well. Angela explained that during the Oktoberfest party, there
was live music and dancing. For special occasions like so, the servers, including Angela, will get on top of the tables and dance traditional German dances. She finds it incredibly fun to be able to express this certain culture in a successful restaurant. I asked her if she ever gets people who are from Germany come to dine in. Angela explained that it does not happen very often, but she has gotten a few customers that get the German food using their thick German accents and features. The people come in wishing to enjoy the music, the food, the service, and the German traditions. This wish is fulfilled when coming to The Hofbrauhaus.  It was a great experience that I would be happy to share with others in the future.

  1. Dancing on tables to live music? This sounds like a lighthearted atmosphere I've only seen in movies. That's really awesome that they go all-in and embrace the culture!
